Bushfire Biscuits
All of us here at Club Fleurieu join in sending our thoughts to those people affected by the recent devastating bushfires. We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all our wonderful firefighters for their courage and sheer hard work in bringing the fires under control, while saving so many lives and homes.
The Club has been collecting cash donations, then matching the donations dollar for dollar. $500 has been sent to the Mayor of Adelaide’s Bushfire Fund & the collection for the KI Bushfire Relief Fund is still ongoing. Many thanks to all who have contributed.
If you have visited the clubrooms recently, you may have noticed a large number of boxes of biscuits. These have been made by Katrina, daughter-in-law of John & Jenny Steggles. We would like to thank Katrina for cooking and decorating the biscuits, and for accepting only the cost of ingredients in return. The biscuits are for sale for $20 per box. The profit of $12.50 per box will be donated to Yankalilla CFS.
Some kind people have decided to purchase a box and donate it back to the CFS with a written message of thanks, so the firefighters can enjoy the biscuits.
We are hoping to hold a “Thank You” event for the local “fireys” in May, when the bushfire danger season is over. The event will be open to the whole community. More details will follow.
In January many Club members took the opportunity to help the Yankalilla Lions with their collection of items donated for bushfire relief. Norbert de Rozario from Lions sent this email:
“Thank you for your prompt response to the request for assistance with the Yankalilla Lions Club Bushfire Relief Effort. The local and wider community response to the Bushfire Disaster on Kangaroo Island was amazing with a huge inflow of donated goods to be sorted, packed and delivered.
The response to the request for assistance from Club Fleurieu Members was immediate, with large numbers of your members assisting us in the collection shed. The sorting and delivery of the vast quantity of donated goods in an efficient and timely manner was a major undertaking and would not have been possible without the willing participation of our community members. Please convey our thanks to your Club Fleurieu Members for their valuable assistance and also their generous donations to the Bushfire Relief Effort.”
