SUMMARY:Sealand Theatre Show
DESCRIPTION:“Promises\, Promises” – Sealand Theatre Variety Show \nOn Saturday\, July 16 at 7.30pm\, Sealand Theatre will stage a very vivacious variety show to raise funds for a short fictional film based loosely on the love affair between Maria (pronounced Mariah) Gandy and Colonel William Light – a seldom-told romance. \nLight started a relationship with Maria Gandy when she was only 21 and she came to South Australia with him and her siblings\, William and Edward Gandy\, on The Rapid in 1836. Kathryn Pentecost’s film script borrows from history and her play\, Songs of the Sea\, and it will involve local actors\, in addressing the festival’s 2017 theme ‘Water’. The spectacular scenery of the Fleurieu coast will be the film’s backdrop. \nSealand Theatre Inc. has already had some Channel 7 news TV publicity from Ron Kandelaars\, who has a personal interest (with his wife) in the Colonel Light-Maria Gandy romance. Ron is interested in following up on the film project with another TV segment for Channel 7. \nThe variety fundraiser\, titled ‘Promises\, Promises!’ is Sealand Theatre’s first show at Club Fleurieu\, 140-142 Main Rd\, Yankalilla and it promises to be a fun-filled evening of music\, poetry and comedy. Several well-known local musicians and a couple of surprise inclusions will ensure there is a wide spectrum of talent and musical styles\, from jazz\, through folk\, blues and pop. In addition\, Esther Ratner will perform some of her very witty poetry and Geoff Bromilow will offer hilarious sketch comedy. \nThe theatre will be running a raffle with three great prizes: A King Billy pine wood sculpture valued around $1\,000 by Geoff Bromilow\, a sumptuous pendant necklace by Evesbeads and breakfast for two at 21 Junk St. Raffle tickets are already on sale via Geoff Bromilow 0411 117 113 for $10 for 2\, or $20 for 5 tickets. \nBookings for the variety show are essential\, just $25 per person through the Visitor Information Centre. For further information\, call or text Kathryn Pentecost 0457 863 272.
